The ocean economy can be defined as the sum of economic activities of ocean-based industries, together with the assets, goods and services provided by marine ecosystems. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development expects the value generated by ocean-based industries to reach $3tn (£2.2tn) a year by 2030.
