Understanding Stroke
Every year there are 152,000 strokes in the UK and stroke remains the fourth most common cause of death as well as the largest cause of complex disability. While the number of stroke-related deaths has fallen by more than 40 per cent in 20 years, research funding is poor – just £48 a year is spent per patient compared with £241 for every cancer patient. This report examines the latest technologies, treatments and therapies being used to improve care, new developments into possible causes of stroke, and provides an 11-step overview of a patient’s care pathway from onset of the condition to rehabilitation
